HOW I ANSWERED...

So one of my cousins gave me a genius idea for telling my date yes. She said I should put the snowwoman's coconuts and wig in a bucket of water so it looks like she melted and write a poem back. But, they needed the stuff back and I didn't want to ruin them so that was a bummer! So then I brainstormed and googled and came up with this idea. I could decorate his room HOT PINK and leave a pink poster saying "I'd be tickled PINK to go to prom with you!" That was my plan until my sick minded mother(love you mom!) showed me a recipe in our family cookbook..."cat litter cake." It looks really disgusting, but it's only crumbled chocolate and white cake, vanilla pudding, cookie crumbs, and melted tootsie rolls. Mom and I called his mom to see if we could drop off their "dessert" and we went down to his house with our cake. I told him that my cat had eaten my answer and he had to find it.

Bet he didn't see that coming!

After he bravely dug out his answer...

He's so brave!!!

I think prom is somewhere around April 25th, so we'll post more pictures later!

HE ASKED! by Jessica

Hey everybody! I finally got asked to Prom!

I woke up this morning, looked out my front door, and found a snow-woman sittin' on my doorstep!

Poor girl had a rough night! Her carrot nose fell off and we found it on the ground next to her, she also lost her...candycane? We're not sure where that was supposed to go, maybe her mouth, a smile? No sign of eyes..probably to protect her anonymity.

She was supposed to self-destruct after delivering her message but..... the design fell short of its mission.

HOW EMBARRASSING!

Meanwhile, I, the fair maiden in my sleepwear, grease-mop hair, and teeth-beautifying retainers received the letter and loosened its seal!

If you can't read it, it says: "The weather outside is frightful, A date to prom would be delightful, so if you've no place to go, will you go, please go, go with me (chase).

I thought a cool date to prom would be great! But with this cold one it might be too late. If you could help me out and come as my date, I'm sure we'd have fun; perhaps it's our fate..."

Snow Day

After our Spring Break Blizzard...the day after was BEAUTIFUL! We will start our photos of the "sick one". Poor Chris ended up sick and could not go out with everyone else. :( So he amused himself by playing on the computer.

Then our yard became the gathering place for kids alike (ok, most of them were teens)

They attempted to make snowmen, but the temptation for a LARGE snowball fight was too much!

Poor Tiffany had to guard her snowman. She didn't want any teenager decapitating him!

This last one was taken just before the snowball hit Chase's head!

Spring Break?? or better Winter Break??

All of our carefully planned Spring Break was put on HOLD permanently! We had a rough start to begin with...homework took LONGER than expected! We didn't get ALL of our homework done until late Tuesday night.

Jessica took advantage of the delay and went on a triple date. They played the "grocery game". Each couple was a team...they went to Walmart and they each had 15 minutes to get 15 items. Then they swap carts and try to see who can put the stuff away first. The only catch is...you must put the item away where it belongs! Jessica & her date came in 2nd place! Then they went out for ice cream!

We were going to go to the Denver Museum of Natural History & Science, but we had snow in the morning. So, that nixed our trip to Denver. We talked about hitting a late afternoon movie however, at the lat minute, Jessica & Ryan said they had a dance practice at 5:00. Well, they really didn't have a dance practice, so we all had a movie night!

Today, Thursday, we were under a blizzard warning...so we really couldn't plan to do anything. Late morning, the girls and I went shopping...we decided we had better go home when they were going to close the mall. Driving home was a little scary, but we kept to the back streets and took our time!! By 5:00pm, we had only received about 5 inches. However, the wind has been HORRIBLE! We have measured wind gusts of 49mph. The boys couldn't stand being in the house any longer, so they bundled up...extra well (the temp with wind chill is -11). After playing for a little bit, I braved the elements to take a few quick pictures.

Notice how the wind has made it so there was really no snow where he is at...just behind him, Ryan is in a snow drift that is about 2 feet deep.

Here is Ryan with his "snow mobile". The boys have been waiting since their birthday in October to be able to use it!

Since the snow is not supposed to end until sometime tomorrow, we really don't have any exciting plans. We are going to watch more movies. We will have lots of munchies. Jessica has even promised to make Wayne's favorite Peanut Butter Cookies!

So, you can say that for "Spring Break", we all gained weight!

HEADED INTO SPRING!

Spring is upon us! Our Spring Break officially begins tomorrow! Yep...that means a series of Parent/teacher conferences...ugh!! We can always plan on our Spring Break being the last full week of March. (It coincides with the Air Force Academy and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs spring break). It has been a wild week. It seems as though EVERYTHING is due right before they are off. Some teachers aren't so nice, and they give projects to accomplish during this break. I want to know....is it really a break if they still have homework?? How fair is that?

We were invited to go camping in Moab with a really neat family for the week, but decided that between projects that need to be done (by kids AND Wayne), we needed to stay home. We also planned lots of activities. We decided as a family that since we weren't spending the money driving to Moab, we could spend "said" money on activities. We had a family meeting and came up with places/things we all wanted to do. We didn't assign a day for each activity since the weather is so variable here in the Springs!

We decided that we all want to spend a day hiking (weather permitting). I found a new hike up Cheyenne Canyon with my hiking group that was beautiful and because of the location...there was no ice! I also saw another place that looked neat called Castlewood Canyon. We all wanted to visit the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. This is a favorite of our family. We just can't get enough of seeing the animals...maybe it is the "animal" in us! We will be going to the Denver Museum of Natural History and Science. This is another favorite of ours. We don't make it there very often because it is over an hour away and a little pricey, but WORTH it! Jessica suggested that after the museum we go to the Spaghetti Factory for dinner since we are already in Denver. Our Spaghetti Factory is in a part of the historical section of Denver. It has a great atmosphere, but the food itself is not the best! Part of me would like to go to Casa Bonita...once again, food is not good, but the atmosphere is great! They have cliff diving and all sorts of activities going on. I digress...The last activity on our list is to attend an IMAX theater show. I guess that all depends on what is showing!

We always have fun as a family no matter what we are doing! I personally am so grateful to have such a WONDERFUL husband and 4 wonderful, beautiful children. We enjoy doing things together. It is fun to see the relationships grow.

My hope is that my children will be as close as I am to my siblings! My siblings have been a blessing to me as we all band together during this trying time as we watch my mother go through the stages of ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. We are all relatively close, however when crisis hit, that bond becomes even stronger! I hope that gives my mom comfort as she faces the road she has been given. Not only will all her children and grandchildren will be alright, but so will her husband! She has taught us so well...I hope I can be half the mother that she is!
