Summer Trip ..Grand Tetons and Yellowstone

Here is one of the most beautiful places here on the earth. How can anyone doubt that their is a God when looking at these pictures!?! What were the French thinking calling them "Tetons"...if you don't know what it means...look it up! (http://www.answers.com/topic/grand-teton)Here is a moose that Wayne, Ryan, Chris & Tiffany saw on their walk. Ryan tried to get close to get a good picture and freaked everyone out!
Here we transition to Yellowstone. We left the motor home in the Tetons and drove up to Yellowstone and did a loop.

OUR TREK...a little out of order

We chose to try to do a family trek while in Nauvoo, Illinois. It was a warm morning when we started out. It was very humid, but not as hot as it had been. We thought for sure that was a good sign...Look how well we work together!
Did I say that it has rained the day before? Ryan opted to go without shoes!
Wow...how did those pioneers decide which route to choose?
We chose the EASIEST route!
We went up and down. We even went THROUGH streams!

We had just passed the 1 mile mark...we had 2 more to go. The family just ahead of us gave up and went back. We pushed on! Then came the clouds! It became very dark! Then the winds blew and the lightening began. The thunder boomed! Then the rain began...within less than 30 seconds, we were all completely drenched! We tried to find cover, but there was none. The lightening seemed to get closer and closer. After a family prayer, we decided to abandon our handcart and run to safety. The streams we had crossed had risen considerably. Many times, we had to run through water that went up to our knees. We took a breather on top of a hill. We decided to have another prayer. Wayne had Tiffany, as the lightening and thunder really scared her. Jessica came next, then Ryan and Chris held onto me as we continued. My dizziness seemed to get a lot worse as we continued to run. The amazing thing was the peace that we all felt. (Thanks mom!!) At the top of the next hill, we saw a house. We ran to it and found a Sister Missionary at home. She called for help. Dad came to the rescue and drove us back to the Motor home. There we gave a prayer of thanksgiving for our safety!

On a side note, we did have to find the nearest Wal-mart so that we could all get new tennis shoes. Ours were so wet, and with the humidity, we didn't think they would ever dry!

Summer 2010 Trip Part 1

We have had a very busy summer so far. It started in July. The first weekend, we went camping...unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures. We came home, cleaned up and left 2 days later. Lucky for us, my dad was willing to chauffeur all over the place. There was a minor complication though...7 people in a motor home built for 2! Here is what it looked at right before we all would go to bed.
Life in the Motor home!

Our first stop was in Logan, Utah. It was a celebration for the Porter's 50th wedding anniversary. It turned into a real fun family reunion.
Siblings were able to get reacquainted. So, were cousins!
There was a reception...thanks to Cheryl and Patty.
The following day we had a family picnic...complete with games.
How much can you cover your family member with toilet paper in a minute....
Alright...so you can't toilet paper someone in one minute, so let's see who can mummify the person first....
Can you empty a whole Kleenex box in a minute? Ryan can...
What is a reunion without pictures...Here are all the siblings...Sonja, Patty, Becky, Wayne, Ben, Susan, Cheryl, David.
Here is Mom and Dad with all their children.
Look at the brothers...what handsome men they have turned into!
Here are all the sisters.
Here are the girls...all showing their "true nature"
Here are the men folk.
Here are the grandchildren who were present.
It was fun for all of us to get together!
