More Band Musings!

Here is the picture that they are putting in the newpaper. That's my baby girl!! Saturday was LONG!!! We had to be at the school at 6:30am. We ran to Walmart before to grab a few things...When we went out to the car, it wouldn't start...all I could think was "Great, I'm the head chaperone and won't be there on time!" I opened the hood and wiggled the battery wires and it started...whew! We were on the bus and rolling by 6:45am. We made it to the stadium about 1 1/2 hours later. (our bus driver was SLOW!!! wouldn't go over 60mph) They all got their instruments and we "plumed" everyone who needed it...then they went to warm up. It was quite chilly to start. They did a great job...but not their best. Here is the link to youtube

They didn't make it to Finals...They got 10th place in the overall state competition. I have to say that I am very proud the whole band. Their original goal was to make it to quarter finals...and they surpassed it by making it into the semifinals!

Our band director wanted the kids to see the finals so that they could decide if that is what they want to aim for next year. After the Semi's were done, we fed the whole band lunch (please remember that there are almost 100 members!) Then we set them loose at a mall to pass the time.

It was fun to go to Investco Stadium and watch the top bands compete...The bad part was that we didn't get home until around 1:00am. That made for an EXTREMELY long tiring day.

We have 2 more performances...one tonight. All 4 high schools in our district made it to the semifinals...2 into finals. They are all going to give a free performance to the community (ok, let's face it, it will be to the parents) Then they have a football game Friday night. They get to dress up in costumes to perform, so that should be fun! Then they get to do a couple of parades. I will be excited when it is all over!

2008 Marching Band Season!

As many of you know, Jessica & Ryan are both involved in the Liberty High School "Pride of the Lancers" Marching band. Jessica is the captain of the colorguard and Ryan plays the Tuba. They got a new band leader and this band has been accomplishing miracles. Last year they weren't very good at all. They didn't really place at all. We took a trip to Grand Junction and competed there. We ended up taking 1st place in that competition for our field show! Our drum line also took 1st place! Their goal this year was to make it to the Quarter Finals! They went from 9th place in the Southern regional competition to 4th place. That gave them a spot in the Quarter finals. They performed in the Quarter Finals today and placed 2nd. WOW...what an amazing performance. If anyone wants to see it, I uploaded the video on YouTube...

They have EXCEEDED their goal of just making it to Quarter Finals! Tomorrow they will participate in the Semi-finals! It is hard to believe that they actually have a chance of making it to State! It is hard to figure out which child to watch...you all better get used to me talking about band...I will have children in the marching band for YEARS to come.
