Tree Felling

Here is a story about 3 beautiful trees. Yes, the trees in front of our house. The poor things...they actually look pretty good in the picture below...however, they are diseased. We have been sad as each year they have gotten worse. Our neighbor had a similar problem a year or so ago and a strong wind ended up blowing it over onto their house. We decided we needed to be pro-active and fell the trees BEFORE they became dangerous. So, here is our picture story! Above is the "before" picture...nothing touched...looks pretty good huh? Below you will find Wayne and some of the kids hugging the trees goodbye.
Our tree-feller is my boss, Sam. He was not happy about posing for the picture below. He is a vital part of this picture story since he is the main character.
Below we find our "main character" making the first notch in the tree. Mind you. He told us EXACTLY where he would put the tree.
He then makes the cut on the back side of the tree. We were all anxiously awaiting the FALL!
And there she goes!
Tree number 1 is officially DOWN!
Sam repeated the same procedure with tree number 2. Since it was so close to the last tree...he got to use a little "muscle power."
Tree number 2 is officially DOWN!
Tree number 3 was a little more diseased than the others, so he used a little more care..ok, so he had to study the tree to decide where to put the notches and such since trees that are more diseased are not as predictable.
He made the front notch, then did a cut on the back side. Then decided to push it the rest of the way down.
Tree number 3 is officially DOWN!
He then proceeded to cut up each of the trees. We saved all the big pieces and will let them dry up and use them as firewood for when we go camping or have a fire in our pit on the deck. We didn't get pictures of the MESS...but it was a doosey!
Below you will see the finished product. Our house looks a little bare to me, however, it is nice to be able to SEE our house!
That concludes our picture story!
