After Christmas limbs...

For Christmas this year, our family received an XBOX 360 with Kinect.  It arrived a little early, so we had played it several times.  Grandpa Bill and Grandma Sally gave us the "SONIC" game for Christmas.  Ryan and Mom decided it was necessary to spend some time playing that game.  Who knew mom could be so competitive?  Mom was determined to beat Ryan!!!  To clarify, Kinect is a sensor that watches your body so that your body is the controller.  Mom found out that you could get MORE points if you did more than just jump up on some of the turns.  If you JUMP and then SPIN, the points really accumulate.  Mom has issues remembering that she has a balance issue.  The first jump and spin really didn't go so well.  She ended up on the floor.  She recovered quickly and was back up on her feet not missing a beat.  The second time she did the jump/spin, she ended up on the floor again.  Once again, she was back up on her feet.  Ryan kept trying to tell her that the jump/spin sequence really wasn't necessary.  Mom, on the other hand, felt as though he was trying to make her stop doing the sequence so that she wouldn't get as many points.  Well...on the third jump/spin sequence, mom went down HARD!  There was a loud SNAP.  Mom did not get back up right away.  Concerned, Ryan rushed to her side...while holding her hand and scooting back, she ORDERED Ryan to finish her turn.  The turn was finished winning mom the highest score yet (see those extra points were needed).

Mom's wrist was rather sore, but she brushed it off.  We all started to take down the Christmas decorations.  Mom's wrist started hurting even more.  Finally, a decision was made to take her to the Urgent Care.  Several snickered when then were told the story of HOW the wrist was hurt.  The diagnosis was....Sprained wrist with a possible scaphoid fracture.  Mom was to follow up with an Orthopedic in a few days.  Of course, mom knows best...and she decided NOT to go to the Orthopedic.  Instead, she decided to go help clean out Grandpa's house in Littleton.  It was a little too much for her.  The next day, she made the appointment and was told she indeed had a scaphoid fracture (which is a break in the wrist).  The put a splint on her and ordered a CAT scan.  They wanted to make sure no pin was needed.  January 3rd was a fun day...we were told that mom did NOT need surgery, but she would be in a cast for 6-10 weeks...WHAT!?!  6-10 weeks with no left arm!?!

On the Day that mom was working in Littleton, the youth at church went ice skating.  Chris was playing tag and ended up falling.  Tiffany also had a mishap that afternoon also.  She had fallen many times! That night while mom was complaining of her wrist hurting...Chris was complaining of his elbow hurting.  Tiffany was complaining of her arm hurting.  By morning, Tiffany just seemed bruised but alright.  Chris would not use his arm.  He ended up going to the orthopedic with mom.  His diagnosis...BROKEN ELBOW! Because his elbow was stable and they did not want him to lose range of motion,  they just put him sling. (Mom did NOT think that was fair!)

About a month later, Chris was pronounced healed.

About 2 months later, Mom was put into a purple cast...yes that was at 8 weeks.  Because she did too much with her "good arm", she ended up with tendinitis and was not able to do ANYTHING for a week!

After 10 1/2 weeks, the cast was FINALLY off!  She still has issues with pain, but it on the road to FULL recovery!
